Two Professors Arrested
(From an Newspaper in India)
July 6, 2000 (APN)
Kolhapur : In what can believed to be one of the most violent educational bursts, the city police today arrested two professors, Dr. Prasenjit Kamble (22) and Prof. Nishant Tharkar (32). The two were alleged of misguiding the student by propagating a new theory, the
police say.
In a programme at the Vivekanand College, here, yesterday, the duo delivered a lecture on Autodynamics which they refer to as a new age physics which was acclaimed by the student from various institutes but was criticized by their teachers. Speaking on the issue a senior Professor said "The theory being propagated is totally against Einstein's Relativity and lacks proper mathematical ground. Their book says superluminic speed to be 27 c whereas they can mathematically derive 10.2c. This shouldn't be the way science should be taught. They are cheating the society since we have never heard the names they refer to as the propounders."
It is for the first time since its establishment in 1993 that Sur-India has been brought under jurisdiction. Famouse for it acts of Science popularization, SUR-India has the credit of bringing many hardcore scientists to the city and introduce and imbibe scientificthought culture in the young minds.
In protest against this arrest, the students from various schools and colleges have decided to launch a one-day strike, though the duo was later released on bail. With the city hot on the matter the coming visit of Dr. Anil Kakodkar to the city on SUR-India's invitation seems to be stormy.
